General Plant Management Guidance
Pull annuals when:
- Next to a sidewalk/hardscape or in cracks in hardscape
- Crowding out vegetation that we have planted
- Growing in walking paths
- They’re non-native or invasive, particularly Buffelgrass and Bermuda Grass
- Trees sprouts in water harvesting basins – these are easy to pull when small
Leave annuals when:
- Showier wildflowers like penstemon, marigold, poppies, globemalllow
- Native grasses in or near basins and landscaped areas
Plants that are pulled should be torn apart and thrown in basins, unless:
- They are invasive/non-native and have set seed

Plants to pull:
- Amaranth/pigsweed - pull when it's over 6" tall
- Euphorbia hyssopifolia
- Goat-heads
- Desert Broom - easiest when it's smaller than 6"
- Mesquite and palo verde sprouts - also easiest to pull when smaller than 6"
- Buffelgrass
- Natives growing in pathway areas
- Dead plants and dead growth - break this up as you are able and distribute in basin areas
Plants to leave:
- Native wildflowers and other annuals not on the above list to pull
- Purslane - please leave this until it dies off
- Globemallow
- Dissodia/Dogweed
