River Run Network Creek Walk: Santa Cruz Cortaro Narrows

Join us to explore the flowing Santa Cruz River at Twin Peaks Rd! Thanks to upstream effluent, this stretch flows year-round, supporting wildlife and native vegetation, and is about to receive an exciting update. Pima County Flood Control is enhancing the area with a wildlife ramp, stream restoration, grade control structures, revegetation, and invasive species removal.

We’ll hear about these improvements from Janice Hughes, PE, RG, then take a short walk through the water led by Lauren Knight, River Run Network Program Manager. Be ready for uneven terrain and water up to thigh-deep—bring sturdy shoes and your sense of adventure to experience this hidden desert gem!

This event is organized through WMG’s River Run Network (RRN). The RRN is a program that honors the heritage of our rivers and the value that water holds for the peoples of Southern Arizona. We acknowledge the indigenous communities that have respected and stewarded our rivers for thousands of years and the Pascua Yaqui, Tohono O’odham, and Latino communities that continue to steward the rivers today. Members work together to learn about and steward our rivers through creek walks, restoration activities, river clean-ups, and educational workshops. If you are not yet a member, we will add you to the RRN when you register for this event. Membership is free and includes a regular e-newsletter with upcoming events.
