River Run Network Clean Up & Arundo Removal: Rillito and Country Club Rd

Registration is closed for this event
We look forward to cleaning up our local creeks with you by picking up trash and removing invasive species. This event will be outside and, while we try to minimize rough terrain, you will be walking across sandy, rocky, and possibly wet soils, navigating through riparian environments, using tools, carrying trash bags and moving heavy Arundo stalks. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for hiking outdoors, we will be walking in the creek, and you may get your feet wet if the creek is flowing, we suggest the following clothing and materials for these events: - Close-toed shoes - Long pants - Long sleeved shirt - Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses - Work gloves if you like (we will also provide these for you) - Bring a reusable water bottle with you and we will provide rainwater to refill during the event Also, please arrive on time as we will start our clean up after a short introduction and we don't want you to get left behind. If you are unable to attend an event for any reason, please respond to this email to cancel your registration to allow for others on the waitlist to attend.

Our Arundo Removal Efforts are expanding! We are so excited to start this new initiative, taking Arundo Removal to the next level across Tucson into many of our other creeks and rivers, not just the Tanque Verde Creek.

We begin this effort by tackling areas across the Rillito this fall (2024) where there have been documented sightings of Arundo, and we need your help to stop the spread and keep it out of our creeks! At this event, we will focus our efforts on picking up trash and removing a few small stands of Arundo in the creek area, easily accessible from the Loop so you can join us by bike or you may even be close enough to walk.

We will bring everything you need to participate in this effort to pick up trash and remove the invasive species, but you are welcome to bring your own supplies as well! We recommend bringing your favorite set of gloves, a water bottle, and loppers if you have them.

This event is organized through WMG’s River Run Network (RRN). Members work together to learn about and steward our creeks and rivers through creek walks, restoration activities, river clean-ups, and educational workshops. If you are not yet a member, we will add you to the RRN when you register for this event. Membership is free and includes a regular e-newsletter with upcoming events.
