Sierra Vista, Arizona embraces green infrastructure practices

Visibility and awareness of green infrastructure practices is critical for community acceptance in thinking about stormwater as a resource not a problem. Watershed Management Group in partnership with the City of Sierra Vista and Cochise Water Project is focusing on:

  1. Providing high-impact, high-visibility, public green infrastructure demonstrations throughout Sierra Vista
  2. Overcoming barriers to city-wide policy and implementation by working collaboratively with local partners

Two green infrastructure demonstrations have been completed which demonstrate effective use of stormwater as a replacement for potable water irrigation. More demonstration sites are in the works for 2013. Our work with the City of Sierra Vista is part of a multi-prong approach to protecting the perennial flows of the Upper San Pedro River while improving the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Cochise Water Proj ect created a video on the project that launched our work in Sierra Vista. Watch it on YouTube.
