$54,000 to raise to help cool neighborhoods across Arizona

In desert cities like Phoenix and Tucson, intense heat and intense flooding are dual problems, exacerbated by how we've built our cities and climate change. Green stormwater infrastructure can mitigate both flooding and heat by harvesting stormwater to grow shade trees and other native plants.

With donor support, WMG has been a leader in promoting community-based green infrastructure, empowering individuals and neighborhoods through free workshops, training programs, online videos, and simple how-to guides.

By making a donation to WMG's year-end campaign, you ensure our leadership can continue to reach new neigborhood groups in Phoenix, Tucson, and Mexico border communities like Nogales and Cananea.

We still have $54,000 to raise by the end of the year to reach our $125,000 goal. Will you make a donation today to expand green infrastruture projects with Arizona neighborhoods and border communities?

WMG recently helped lead a green stormwater infrastructure project in the Fairview Neighborhood of Phoenix. “We need to stop this stormwater flooding; and rather than relying on the city, how can we empower ourselves to do this on our own?” said Jennifer Wadsworth, president of the Fairview Place Neighborhood Association and alumni of WMG's Water Harvesting Certification.

In a neighborhood facing flooding issues and a need for cooling shade, this demonstration site introduces people to nature-based solutions and it beautifies the neighborhood gathering place for events. Jennifer went through The Nature Conservancy's Urban Heat Leadership Academy training and received a small grant to work with WMG to create a demonstration site for utilizing stormwater to support native pollinator plants and a shade tree.

“This project brought out neighbors I've never met before in my 20+ years of living here,” Jennifer said. “People are going to see it grow and it’s going to spark more conversation.”

Your gift to WMG will help us continue our community conservation work especially in neighborhoods that most need our help: neighborhoods with few resources and with little shade. Make your donation here or set up your monthly gift here.

Additionally this year, you can give in one of the following ways to better support our work and benefit your 2025 tax returns:

Gifts from an IRA (for donors 70.5 or older)
Gifts of stock
Grants from a Donor-Advised Fund
Gifts of cryptocurrency
