Watershed Survey in India -- Local Spring Restoration

06/12/2012

A short video from a recent watershed survey in rural Maharashtra where Watershed Management Group and our partner organization Grampari have been working with communities to provide a safe and sustainable source of drinking water.

In the hills of the Western Ghats many villages traditionally relied on springs for drinking water. Unfortunately, these springs are in decline due to increased groundwater demand, ecosystem degradation and a changing climate.

We work with communities to install simple systems that protect springs, prevent contamination, efficiently harvest water and gravity feed it to nearby villages. We want to share this approach and make it a model for communities throughout the Western Ghats.
