David Stevonson's Home Tour
David will lead a tour through a matured landscape created by earthworks that have allowed a path for rainwater to nourish the native vegetation. The majority of native trees and vegetation were planted in 2011/12 - 14 years ago! Learn why the trees were planted in their locations and if they have delivered the anticipated benefits. You can expect to receive answers to common questions like which trees have thrived and make the most shade? Is the shade where it is needed? Where have trees struggled, and why? In total, 15 native trees were planted over the years, can you spot all of them?
Along the way you'll see artistically painted cisterns that store 5,000 gallons of rainwater for potable and landscape use, along with a pump and purification system. As you head towards the back of the home, you'll learn about kitchen grey water for fruit trees, composting toilet, tippy tap, outdoor shower, laundry-to-landscape, and (of course!) more trees that create a completely different western micro-climate. Other sustainable features include solar electric with batteries, EV with charging, and methods to reduce energy consumption - which saves water!
Come learn how you can sculpt your landscape for rainwater, plant trees that will provide shade for decades, plus many other ways you can have a positive effect on the natural world that helps our planet.
