All videos and upcoming virtual events are featured below.
During this time of COVID-19, people across the U.S. and the globe are sheltering in place. Imagine if during these months we all "steward in place" and make changes at home and in our neighborhood that have a positive impact on our planet. Researchers found it takes an average of 66 days for people to form a new habit (Lally, Van Jaarsveld, Potts, & Wardle, 2010). With many of us at home, with more time on our hands, we have fertile ground for forming new habits.
What you do in your yard and neighborhood impacts your local creek, river, lake, or ocean. So let’s use that power for good and enhance our watersheds together.
During this time we can reflect deeply on our habits. How do we spend our time? Do we spend time on activities that really bring us joy, health, and long-term satisfaction? With social connections cut off, how connected are we to the rest of our environment? Our yard? Our neighborhood green space? Our local creek or river?
We want to help you with your conservation bucket list. Challenge yourself to do these projects with resources you have at home. We’re all flushing water down the drain, creating food and yard waste, and putting lots of stuff in the trash. So let’s turn that waste into resources and create compost, mulch, greywater for irrigation, yard art, and new planters. No trips to the store needed!
With gyms closed, it’s time to grab a shovel and dig a basin, create a berm, or shape a swale. Get your rain garden prepped to harvest the monsoon rains, which will be here sooner than think.
Let’s take this opportunity to do something good and form new habitats that benefit our local environment, this year, and for many years to come.
