Hydro Local Living and Urban Forestry in the Valley

From the Santa Cruz to the Gila, to the Colorado River, we are one watershed. Hydro Local Valley is WMG's community classes, grassroots projects, and policy work leading communities in the Valley to keep cool and utilize our local water resources.

Education

These classes have been offered in the valley since 2015 where we have helped inspire and hydrate the city of Phoenix, Avondale, San Tan Valley, Tempe, Surprise, Glendale, Mesa, Fountain Hills, Goodyear. Urban Forestry Projects

We are bringing hydro local education to classrooms and rain garden projects to schools in the Valley to promote urban forestry. In 2023 we worked with 5 schools in partnership with ASU's Sustainable Teachers Academy and US Fish and Wildlife Service to provide professional development to teachers on water harvesting lesson development, classroom education with students, and we installed a rain gardent that students helped design that will grow shade and native polinator plants at their school!

We are excited to continue working in schools and at community sites in Phoenix!

Urban Heat Leadership Academy

The Nature Conservancy's Urban Heat Leadership Academy is training community leaders to use nature based solutions to support community health and adapt to challenges we face in warming cities. WMG leads trainings in academy focused on water harvesting and green infrastructure. We also advise and support members of the academy as they work to implement projects planting native shade and utilizing rainwater as a resource. In 2024 we'll be supporting teams working in Fairview Place neighborhood and neighborhoods in South Phoenix.
