Watershed Management Group (WMG) in partnership with Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) invites restoration practitioners to learn and share expertise through a facilitated hands-on activity-based workshop.

Lower San Pedro River - Beaver Dam Analog structure

This free, 1-day workshop, located along the lower San Pedro River, is designed for both emerging and experienced restoration practitioners from agencies and organizations particularly BIPOC individuals and those from historically underserved communities who work in or near riparian systems.

The workshop activities will include a guided evaluation of previously installed beaver dam analogues (BDAs) and related post structures, invasive tamarisk removal, and pole plantings and the opportunity to learn how AZGFD planned and is starting the installation of additional BDA structures. The workshop will include opportunities for skill building, knowledge sharing, and networking.

Please note:

  • Carpooling will be encouraged and facilitated among participants 1-2 weeks from the event. If helpful, limited travel stipends may be available upon request to offset the cost of participation and will be prioritized for BIPOC and historically underserved community members. Please contact Catlow Shipek, catlow@watershedmg.org, stating your need for a travel stipend.
  • No bathroom available at field site - a portable composting toilet and privacy tent will be set up for use.
  • Bring your own lunch and refillable water bottle
  • Closed-toed shoes and long pants are required and sun protection is recommended.

Workshop Goals:

  • Evaluate performance of riparian habitat enhancement including beaver dam analogues (BDAs) and explore ecological health connections;
  • Learn what went into planning and designing the BDAs and participate in the installation of additional BDAs;
