Internships & Apprenticeship

Learn at Work

WMG has a variety of ways for you to engage in part-time, paid, short-term work with us. Whether you're a college student looking for an internship or a professional looking for experience in a new career area, there are places for you here. Internships and apprenticeships range from a few months to a year. Interns and apprentices work directly with WMG staff, docents, volunteers, and partners on community-based conservation and environmental justice projects.

Internships

Internships provide real-world work experience and community engagement opportunities working directly with staff supervisors. Internships are funded through our grants or are in partnership with colleges and highschools, including the University of Arizona. Ask your school if internships can be supported with WMG!

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are paid part-time positions with WMG, lasting 4 - 12 months in length, and open to all adults interested in applying. Whether you are wanting to start a new career path, wanting to learn new skills, or are just starting out, an apprenticeship may be a good fit for you. Donor funding for this program is intended to open up jobs in the environmental and community conservation field for underrepresented individuals, and we encourage Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Latinx, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities to apply.

Testimonials from Past Interns & Apprentices

Jasmine

This internship honored the knowledge I brought in as a Diné and Mexica woman—connection to land, community, and future generations. I felt truly supported and saw Indigenous knowledge respected and uplifted. It reminded me that sustainability is, and always has been, deeply rooted in culture and community.

Nicole

The apprenticeship program allowed me to bring in my skills, nurtured them, and allowed me to strengthen--all while having the support to do so.

Marissa

Working at the Living Lab's residential-house-turned-sustainable-office-space has meant I've learned where our water comes from and how we can (re)use less of it. I've become more mindful in my own home when I wash dishes, cook, and shower and have started a composting program with my friends.

Abby

I no longer see caring for the land as a career but as a daily practice. Whether I continue to work for conservation nonprofits or pivot back to teaching high school English, I will take what I've learned at WMG to bring small-scale change.
