Hydrate the Valley

Hydro Local Living and Urban Forestry in the Valley

From the Santa Cruz to the Gila, to the Colorado River, we are one watershed. Hydrate the Valley is WMG's community classes, grassroots projects, and policy work leading communities in the Phoenix Valley to keep cool and utilize our local water resources.

Education

Hydrate the Valley classes are community classes on water harvesting and native landscaping offered in communities throughout the Valley. These classes have been offered in the valley since 2015 where we have helped inspire and hydrate the city of Phoenix, Avondale, San Tan Valley, Tempe, Surprise, Glendale, Mesa, Fountain Hills, Goodyear. See the different classes offered here and upcoming classes below!

Urban Forestry Projects

In 2023 we joined ASU, a team of local nonprofits, and city governments to start the Urban Forestry Accelerator program providing education to a workforce moving away from traditional landscaping maintenance and into landscape stewardship and care practices. In addition to supporting a new workforce of practitioners around the Valley, we bring these practices to schools with the Canopy for Kids program where we work with teachers, students, and the wider school community to design and install tree planting and water harvesting projects on school campuses in Phoenix.

Urban Heat Leadership Academy

The Nature Conservancy's Urban Heat Leadership Academy is training community leaders to use nature-based solutions to support community health and adapt to challenges we face in warming cities. WMG leads trainings in the academy focused on water harvesting and green infrastructure. We also advise and support the Nature Conservancy team to select sites where the cohort of students in the academy have the opportunity to apply what they learned in the program to plan and implement green infrastructure projects in communities across the Valley.
