Community Conservation

What is Community Conservation?

The goal of our community conservation program is to promote sustainable water practices and resilient landscapes through community-driven conservation, education, and partnerships.

Empower Communities to Lead Water-Saving Practices

Train residents, educators, and leaders to adopt and promote green infrastructure and rainwater harvesting.

Advance Equity in Water Conservation

Prioritize engagement with BIPOC, low-income, rural, and underserved communities across Arizona and the borderlands.

Foster Regional and Binational Partnerships

Collaborate with partners in Tucson, Phoenix, Tribal Nations, and northern Mexico to create a shared watershed ethic.

Build Long-Term Capacity in Communities

Develop community stewards and neighborhood leaders through workshops, apprenticeships, and hands-on projects.

Promote Green Infrastructure and Resilient Landscapes

Install school and community rain gardens that manage stormwater, enhance shade, and connect people to place.

Integrate Education Across Generations

Work with schools, from elementary to college-level, to integrate environmental literacy and traditional ecological knowledge.

Greening Our Cities

Urban trees do more than beautify neighborhoods—they provide shade, reduce urban heat, improve air quality, and strengthen local ecosystems. Our urban forestry programs focus on planting native and drought-resistant trees in communities most impacted by rising temperatures. By engaging residents, businesses, and local leaders, we ensure long-term tree care and equitable access to green spaces.

GROW Tucson

GROW Tucson is a grant initiative focused on making Tucson's hottest neighborhoods cooler and greener. Our projects bring neighbors together to create Green Spaces that tackle heat and drought with nature-based solutions. Supported by the Forest Service, we’re working directly with nine CJEST disadvantaged neighborhoods to expand green spaces and foster a sustainable, resilient future.

Arizona State University’s Sustainability Teachers Academy

WMG proudly partners with Arizona State University’s Sustainability Teachers Academy to empower educators with hands-on, place-based solutions for teaching sustainability. Through workshops, field experiences, and curriculum development, we equip K-12 teachers with the tools to integrate water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and climate resilience into their classrooms.

Faith-Based & Non-Profit Partnerships

Through collaborations with faith-based organizations and non-profits, we help to build rain gardens, resilience, and skills in our communities.
