6th Annual River Run Network Bat Night

Event date Wednesday July 22, 2026 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Location type In-person

Event type Creek Walk, Major Event

Program area Flow365, River Restoration, River Run Network

Join the River Run Network for an evening in the Rillito River to experience the bats taking flight! At this free, family friendly event, you'll get to explore Tucson Village Farm's "Little Farm" through fun activities, hear from bat expert Debbie Buecher, and then we will head into the creek just in time to see the bats head out for the night.

Our rivers are important spaces for our nocturnal friends, they are not only in search of insects, but they are pollinating native plants and in search of water. Come experience the magic of their group flight with us and learn about how they are connected to our creeks and rivers.

What to Expect at Bat Night

Welcome to the Rillito River! At this family friendly event, you can expect to walk through sandy and possibly wet soils, explore Tucson Village Farm's Little Farm, meet new people, and learn about bats and our rivers!

Explore Tucson Village Farm's Little Farm

Walk through the farm before we head into the creek, learn through batty activities and ways to get involved with Tucson Village Farm and the River Run Network!

Walk through the Rillito

We will head down into the creek just before sunset to watch the bats fly out from under the Campbell Ave bridge.

Learn from a Bat Expert

Debbie Buecher will be there to share all of her batty knowledge along with Rosie, her resident bat who loves showing off what it is to be a bat!

This event is organized through WMG’s River Run Network (RRN). The RRN is a program that honors the heritage of our rivers and the value that water holds for the peoples of Southern Arizona. We acknowledge the indigenous communities that have respected and stewarded our rivers for thousands of years and the Pascua Yaqui, Tohono O’odham, and Latino communities that continue to steward the rivers today. Members work together to learn about and steward our rivers through creek walks, restoration activities, river clean-ups, and educational workshops. If you are not yet a member, we will add you to the RRN when you register for this event. Membership is free and includes a regular e-newsletter with upcoming events.
