Nan is a poet, facilitator, and place-based ritual keeper.

As the founder of a community-based writing practice called River Writing, she has facilitated countless gatherings on behalf of imperiled waters over the last decade. In 2022 and 2023 she served as the poet-in-residence and winter vigil keeper on Antelope Island, at the shore of the receding Great Salt Lake. She collected lines of praise for the lake from 400+ participants and assembled a book of poetry called irreplaceable, published in 2024 with a forward by Terry Tempest Williams.

Her recent move to Tucson brought her closer to her grown-up daughter and her mother. Nan is wild with delight over new neighbors here, especially Verdin, Ocotillos, Agave, and lizards! She received a thorough and joyful introduction to beyond-human relatives in this watershed via the 2026 Pima County Master Naturalist program which she unabashedly recommends.

Her family includes her border-collie lab companion, her writing community, as well as many trees, rivers, and birds. Nan loves this sentient, singing world with all of her heart.
