Gain hands-on experience at this arroyo restoration workshop by helping enhance floodplain habitat along Sabino Creek at the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area in order to slow flows, retain sediment, and enhance infiltration to benefit the downstream Sabino Creek shallow groundwater riparian ecosystem. WMG employs low-tech process-based restoration strategies to slow flows, retain sediment, and enhance infiltration to benefit the downstream Sabino Creek shallow groundwater riparian ecosystem. You will learn approaches to slowing, spreading, and infiltrating water within arroyo corridors and how these efforts can actually improve water quality and water infiltration to benefit the overall riparian health of the area. You can expect to learn how to build rock grade control structures called one rock dams (ORDs) and how to promote native vegetation recruitment within these treatment areas.
