River Run Network Creek Walk: Tanque Verde Wild Elderberry Forest

Our creek walk starts at the confluence area of the two creeks that feed the Rillito River – the Tanque Verde Creek and the Pantano Creek. We’ll cover some ground – up to 2.5 miles roundtrip, so be prepared to walk at a good clip and bring along a flashlight for the return. We’ll be walking in the gorgeous floodplain of the Tanque Verde Creek, one of the few remaining connected floodplains in central Tucson that has not been channelized. Our destination is to visit the wild  Elderberry forest along the floodplain, and hope to see some late winter flows. Historically the confluence area was a ciénega or wetland that supported a lush riparian ecosystem and indigenous settlement. WMG’s Executive Director, Lisa Shipek, will be leading this creek walk. 

This will be a physically distanced, mask-on event. This event is limited to 10 people.
