Tucson Co-op Workshop: Women Trans* Femme (WTF) Build

Registration is closed for this event
WMG is offering our first ever WTF Build Co-op workshop! 'WTF does WTF mean?' may be a question on your mind if you've never seen the term before. Thankfully, many inclusive and thoughtful people and organizations have gone before us in writing about this term and the importance of these spaces. Google is a great place to start. Or even better, our friends at Tucson's local Bicycle Inter-Community Art & Salvage shop (BICAS) have great material for you to read and learn from on their WTF page. Check it out!

For WMG, the effort to create more inclusive and safe spaces in which to teach and learn rainwater harvesting skills started with our 2017 Resolutions and "Women's Build" workshops. For our WTF Build Co-op workshops and tool trainings moving forward, we look forward to seeing all persons who identify as female, transgender, femme, genderqueer, trans-masculine, trans-feminine, or who feel that their socialization or treatment as a woman, transperson*, and/or femme has impeded their participation in technical skills work related to landscaping, plumbing, power tool use and outside labor. Water harvesting takes all those skills and more, and everyone should have equal access to these learning opportunities!

For this co-op workshop, we'll be learning all about passive water harvesting techniques -  shaping basins to 'slow, spread, and sink' the water, doing rockwork to stabilize slopes, using the laser level to check flow directions, planting native plants to benefit the soil and create habitat for local wildlife, and more!

We very much look forward to seeing all our fabulous WTF friends, new and old, this January! The work and learn party will be led by WMG's Sonoran Landscape Specialist, Emma Stahl-Wert.
