Soil Steward Composting Toilet Program - Informational Session

Registration is closed for this event
Watershed Management Group is seeking 15 – 20 pilot participants, for the new Soil Stewards Composting Toilet program, starting March 2012. Participants will attend a series of educational workshops and build and use composting toilets at their homes, with approval from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and monitoring from the University of Arizona’s Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology.

Are you…

  • An early adopter who likes to be part of a cutting-edge pilot program to influence city and state policy?
  • Tired of flushing potable water down the toilet and interested in building a legal composting toilet for your home?
  • Interested in using alternative composting systems to improve your soil and fertilize trees and other plants?
  • Want to get geeky about soil – how to build healthy soils and conserve water while producing food and lush native landscapes?

Informational Session: Thursday, February 9th, 6-8pm. Register below to attend this informational session on WMG's Soil Steward Composting Toilet Program (attendance required to apply to be a pilot participant). Click to view a info flyer.

This informational session will include:

  • The activities and information taught in the Soil Stewards program
  • Composting toilet designs offered through the program (site-built), proper use, permitting, and legal issues
  • How to apply to receive a subsidy and be an exclusive pilot participant to receive a legal site built composting toilet

WMG has launched a unique soils-focused educational program, piloting a compost-toilet project and a green-waste mulching project to turn common wastes into soil nutrients. Healthy, productive soils are literally at the root of a healthy watershed; and we look forward to connecting the dots between soil, water, and waste.  Through this program WMG will be offering a series of engaging hands-on learning presentations and interactive webinars on the topic of soil fertility.

The project is possible through grant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 9 for their environmental education projects.
