Ward I Water Harvesting Workshops (8:00AM - 12:00PM)
Time: Saturday, January 10th, 8 - 12pm Site Partner: City of Tucson Ward I Council Office
The Ward I Council Office is pleased to invite you to help implement sustainable practices that will conserve water, reduce energy use, create more green space, and reduce flooding.
We are partnering with Watershed Management Group (WMG) and the Sonoran Institute to implement water harvesting features and native landscaping while providing educational opportunities to the community.
There will be a series of weekend workshops starting this fall and into the winter. Participants will learn how to create a site assessment map, evaluate site characteristics, measure slope, and calculate water available from roof runoff and greywater. We will learn about native plants and implement passive water harvesting earthworks to comply with the new ordinance passed by Mayor and Council October 14, 2008. Thanks to the Sonoran Institute for supporting this important work with grant funds from the Environmental Protection Agency and providing organizational support. Neighborhood Water Harvesting Workshop (1:00PM - 5:00PM)
Time: Saturday, January 10, 1-5pm Location: Rincon Heights Neighborhood (6th street & Campbell Ave. area) WMG is hosting a workshop on Saturday, January 10 from 1 to 5pm in
the Rincon Heights neighborhood (6th St./Campbell area). As part of
WMG's and Rincon Heights' model program to improve water quality in
urban neighborhoods, we'll be shaping basins and swales, laying
rockwork and gravel, and planting native vegetation. This workshop will
be of particular interest to those who want to learn more about working
in the City of Tucson's right-of-way (between sidewalk and curb) to
harvest rain water from adjacent properties, sidewalks, and from street
runoff via curb cuts. The workshop will include information on city
requirements, and hands-on practice working within this valuable and
often overlooked public space.
There is space for 25 people at this free, public workshop. To reserve

Water Harvesting Workshop With SAAF (1:00PM - 5:00PM)
WMG in partnership with the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) will be offering a free, public workshop on Saturday, January 17th from 1pm - 5pm. This workshop will be held at a multi-family housing unit owned by SAAF. The workshop will focus on erosion control and basic water harvesting techniques. It is a unique opportunity to assist local community members in need and to learn more about residential passive greywater installation and water harvesting earthworks. This workshop will be located in central Tucson. More details will be provided upon workshop registration. The workshop is limited to 15 volunteers. WMG Open House Presentation (4:00PM - 5:00PM)
WATERSHED MANAGEMENT GROUP HOLDS OPEN HOUSE FOR POTENTIAL VOLUNTEERS AND BOARD MEMBERSWatershed Management Group (WMG), a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization based in Tucson, AZ will be hosting two open houses for individuals interested in learning more about the organization and volunteer opportunities. The Executive Director as well as members of the Board of Directors will speak about the mission and activities of Watershed Management Group. As WMG continues to increase its capacity to serve the community it relies on volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors and as Advisory Board members to provide oversight, outreach, program development, and technical expertise. Volunteers can also assist with activities such as workshops, earthworks, water conservation, international program development, fundraising and organizational tasks. If you’re interested in making a difference and improving your community, come to an open house and learn more about Watershed Management Group.
