Ward I Water Harvesting Workshops (1:00PM - 5:00PM)
Time: Saturday, December 6th, 1-5pm Site Partner: City of Tucson Ward I Council Office
The Ward I Council Office is pleased to invite you to help implement sustainable practices that will conserve water, reduce energy use, create more green space, and reduce flooding.
We are partnering with Watershed Management Group (WMG) and the Sonoran Institute to implement water harvesting features and native landscaping while providing educational opportunities to the community.
There will be a series of weekend workshops starting this fall and into the winter. Participants will learn how to create a site assessment map, evaluate site characteristics, measure slope, and calculate water available from roof runoff and greywater. We will learn about native plants and implement passive water harvesting earthworks to comply with the new ordinance passed by Mayor and Council October 14, 2008. You can find a link to the new ordinance here: http://www.ci.tucson.az.us/agdocs/20081014/oct14-08-564.pdf
Thanks to the Sonoran Institute for supporting this important work with grant funds from the Environmental Protection Agency and providing organizational support. Their assistance enables Ward I to offer free workshops to the community. We hope to see you there! Neighborhood Water Harvesting Workshop (8:00AM - 12:00PM)
Time: Saturday, December 13, 8:00am-12:00pm Location: Rincon Heights Neighborhood (6th street & Campbell Ave. area) WMG is hosting a workshop on Saturday, December 13, from 8am to 12pm in the Rincon Heights neighborhood (6th St./Campbell area). As part of WMG's and Rincon Heights' model program to improve water quality in urban neighborhoods, we'll be shaping basins and swales, laying rockwork and gravel, and planting native vegetation. This workshop will be of particular interest to those who want to learn more about working in the City of Tucson's right-of-way (between sidewalk and curb) to harvest rain water from adjacent properties, sidewalks, and from street runoff via curb cuts. The workshop will include information on city requirements, and hands-on practice working within this valuable and often overlooked public space.
There is space for 25 people at this free, public workshop. To reserve your spot, please RSVP to James MacAdam, phone 780-9416, email: james@watershedmg.org.
